The Loudonville Theatre Advisory Committee has confirmed that funds raised from the first benefit event will go toward replacing and enhancing the current sound system in Loudonville's historic Ohio Theatre. Many in the community agree that the existing sound system for movies is in desperate need of a technical upgrade and overhaul. The process of gathering cost estimates and evaluating the best course of action has begun with helpful input from Ohio Theatre Manager Jim Alleman. In the meantime, efforts by the committee are now focused on fundraising to support this much needed improvement for Loudonville's local movie house. The hope of the Loudonville Theatre Advisory Committee is to raise $20,000 through the first benefit event, which will take place at the Ohio Theatre, August 26, 2000. The day will begin at 2:00 pm with a showing of the Wizard of Oz, then move through the afternoon and evening with live performances including the Loudonville Players, and end with another showing of the Wizard of Oz accompanied by the music of rock group Pink Floyd's album, "Dark Side of the Moon." Committee Chairperson Kerry MacQueen stated, "If more donations come through similar to the Loudonville Lioness Club, we just may be able to have that sound system in place for the first event. That would be a dream come true for us." To help collect donations, area craftsman and professional sign painter, Stan Pace, has just completed constructing a very attractive wooden lock box which will be placed in the lobby of the Ohio Theatre. Donations for the theatre restoration and sound system improvements may be dropped in the box at any time. Contributors will be listed in the event program as well as on the Ohio Theatre web site. Donations may also be mailed to the Loudonville Theatre Advisory Committee, P.O. Box 241, Loudonville, OH 44842.
